Basically, the Rockers soundtrack. Its not really the style of 'reggae' that I listen to regularly, but they're all classics nonetheless. The movie was pretty much my introduction to non-Marley reggae.

I think the Mighty Diamonds' album "Right Time" and Max Romeo's album "War Ina Babylon" could both be classified as 'evergreen.'

As other posters have mentioned, early 80's rub a dub is my current preference and I never get tired of listening to this style, but there doesn't seem to be a lot of tunes that I would categorize as 'evergreen.' Maybe someone can point some out . . .

"Night Nurse" - Gregory
"Wa Do Dem" - Eek a Mouse
"Here I Come" - Barrington Levy

As much as I love Lone Ranger I really can't think of a tune he recorded that is so well known that it could be described as evergreen - "Barnabas Collins" maybe?

"Love Bump" is pretty much his calling card on record, a massive JA seller, but it was never released on a Lone Ranger LP (just on "various artists" compilations).

"Rosemarie" is probably my favorite of Lone Ranger's, but I know what you mean and I think that's why I was having a hard time picking out a early 80's 'evergreen' tune.

I guess my issue (if you could call it that) is that the 80's riddims were versioned so much that the tunes don't seem to stand out individually. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE this 80's sound and love all the songs that have been mentioned in this thread. Its just that a lot of these songs are on par with one another. Maybe I just like them all too much to distinguish. Or maybe, its just that the entire 80's rub a dub sound is 'evergreen' (to me). Its such a good vibe--it never gets old.

This is exactly what I was thinking of, though some prime candidates of dancehall have come up, namely, Firehouse Rock and Night Nurse.
I have great pains with Barrington Levy and Sugar Minott to pick up possible evergreen of their numerous tunes. Actually shouldn't a true evergreen flash right into your mind?

Ah yes, Sugar Minott...geez, just about everything he recorded sounds evergreen to me:)

Maybe "Good Thing Going"? One of the biggest reggae hits in the UK at least.

I concur with rokkimake - an evergreen tune should just pop into your head...
