Looking 4ward in2 picking it up.

I wonder if they'll overdo the digital noise reduction like they did on the majority of part 1? Sound quality overall on most of the tracks is pretty crap IMHO. Would much rather they left the surface noise in instead of screwing around so it's sounds like the tunes have been run through some horrible metallic phaser. Saved only by the music.

I can't say that I noticed that. Though this CD was the first time I'd heard nearly all of those songs...

Have a listen again, it also makes the hand drumming sound odd on a few of the tracks. The whole thing was redeemed by the 2 "deliver me from my enemies" dubs. I honestly wish they'd just "draw" out any major clicks or bumps with something like sound forge and not run it through crappy filters because, unless you're Kevin Metcalfe who did an amazing job on the early BAF stuff, it just leaves residual shite.

serious "accusations" yms. Similar statements were made about the Tommy McCook Reggae In Jazz PS release. Who has decent enough Hi Fi and original vinyls in ex condition to be the judge here?

by chance I'm on a massive Yabby You bender at the moment. I spun half of Deeper roots 1 today and I can't say I noticed much wrong. The sound is ever so slightly muffled like it lacks the clarity in the high frequencies maybe (I have no idea about sound so I could be talking out of my ass) but not so much that it ruins my listening pleasure. I think I fall on the less sound restoration side of the fence though. I mean if you bought all the singles there would be clicks and surface noise right?

Yeah, but how many times do you see people being all like 'lazy fucking cheap-ass labels - just putting out a shitty vinyl rip on CD again!' and posting 'BEWARE' (no pun intended) reviews on Amazon if any of that typical vinyl surface noise is audible on the disc though?

Absolutely, it's a fine line to tread. In a digital age you almost wonder if a label could put straight rips and cleaner versions out on the same CD or mp3 for almost no extra cost. Or maybe you could download the straight rips with proof of purchase if you prefer. My press of Aquarius dub is full of surface noise, but how else would I hope to hear such a rare LP pressed in such smal quantities. I know I've given PS a hard time, but I wouldn't like to be them. Although it does seem as though I have hit on a solution with a free rip of the untreated tracks.... Now I'm off to solve the middle east with an overly simplistic answer baaed on no knowledge or research... Don't try to stop me I'm on a roll
