Your CD player adheres to the " Red Book " standard for replay utilised in many hi-fi transports , I suffer occasionally from the same problem myself using an Audio Analogue Maestro high end disc player . Some players use a computer based transport , so can read discs that cover a range like CDR'S etc . more easily read by the laser head . ( If this is a problem to me , I burn a copy on my PC using the " drag and drop " for each individual track rather than a straight copy . )

The few CDs that won't read (and what I mean is it doesn't attempt to play them, but refuses to accept them) are regular factory made CDs, and they work in my other CD-player, an Audio Pro (Swedish brand), and my Cambridge Audio DVD-player. What made me think of this was that this happened just the other day with disc 2 of "The Upsetter Selection - A Lee Perry Jukebox" (which I had sitting unopened a long time, so this was the first play). The way the Rega Planet is constructed and the way it behaves in these cases, it makes me think it has something to do with the disc being made so it (or the content on it) is not properly centered (but I don't know if it works like that).
