Listings on Amazon aren't a good guide for real prices. Sellers just throw them up there at silly prices to see if anyone takes the bait.
But still, why shouldn't CDs command similar prices to vinyl? Many CDs are pressed up in fairly small number, distribution is uneven. Supply and demand. At this point the format has been around for 30 years, so it makes sense that the market has formed around hard to find items. As for CD-R copies, again the same is true for vinyl. Many people prefer the whole package, liner notes, art, etc.

The most i ever paid was to get a mint copy of Yabby You & Friends Jesus Dread Compilation from Blood & Fire as its no longer in print and any reggae CD collector if they are like me anyway would be loath to part with it i paid $80nz which aint a lot really as i have seen it going for that musch US$ in various places and they werent minnt copys at all. So it goes to show some CD's will fetch half way decent prices as people have said it all depends on how much the buyer wants the item and also if its out of print lots of variables.

man, those scientist prices are crazy.
evil curse and world cup were last re-issued only a few years ago.
so, how do you become a seller on amazon? just kidding. i don't think i could part with the albums being mentioned. but if people really go for those prices then it sure is tempting.

I would say ebay completed auctions are the best guide, Amazon or half.com are a good guide for many CDs, but when you see people listing something for over $30 I'd check ebay to see if that's consistent, especially the ones listed at $80, $100, $200 I think most of those are just people taking a punt. It costs nothing to list something there.
