Just found this old thread... If anyone still have probs viewing just message but I think it ok as it had hundreds of thousands of views. Since writing my original post I also got to meet with the man who filmed all the tubby stuff who is from Japan, I met him in Kingston 6-7 yrs back and talked via translator about it, he Also happens to be the man who invented the word riddim can you believe, riddim is not a JA word but made by a Japanese man who worked with and was friends with tubby And was inspired by Jamaican culture.
Their is a totally seperate documentary project being worked on about tubby from uk, I have made sure they know how to link the footage man, someone who is be well respected in Japan for his works.
If anyone is serious about licensing just give us a shout and I can assist.

Plenty great stuff to come, people are getting old, they are either digitising or selling tapes or films on to those who are able to make use of them. We will no doubt be seeing much more great footage of foundation artists. I'm also seeing a new breed of collectors of aren't short of cash! And they are doing a great job at buying up the old VHS stock of stores in the U.S. and documenting their findings so many new things are coming up on my radar. The reggae film thing has exploded since 2008 year by year, so much more interest these days.

I personally know of 3 very significant collections 2 of which where shot entirely throughout the 70's in JA featuring the whose who of roots reggae! Can you imagine that..... Unfortunately funding to digitise is scarce, I've have no luck in finding funds to help preserve these collections (thinking about kickstarter right now) but am working on trying to ensure that they are preserved for ever, it would be a crime if this did not happen, so i continue to look for support, if anyone can genuinely help pls get in touch.

My film blog got hacked and I was locked out for a long time which is why u see no posts/film news for ages but I'm back in now, I will be coming back with a revised website and more info on th history of reggae and Jamaican film next year, will also announce anything of relevance in forums like this one as always.

If anyone wants to book a reggae film program then get in touch... Have plenty new films most unseen.

BLESS

Ps
That prince far I clip someone referred to, it was used in some punk doc, forget the title now, but re-aired on bbc4. Few years back I think, it was shot at Dingwalls, likey by don lett's. I got to view the complete don let's reggae super 8 reels (unedited rankin movie)stuff some time ago I did write on my blog about this I beleive, more prince far I in this, lots of prince hammer, congos, Tappa, Johnny rotten, many more but some reels went missing so I hear, I think many still remain with don, I really hope he makes use of them some day, I for one would be well up for the job of editing this up into a documentary given the chance. Don't forget that Dingwalls also had a huge video archive, not sure who has this right now... Would love to know...
