I do not have internet! I have to go far to find this site. I can not download anything, so I have to collect original format.
If I had MP3 I would download. I do not know enough music to keep up with people of this site, so I wish I could download.
I am poor, but I love reggae. I want to hear more, but can not easily find it. I wish more people could download and share.
It is the only way for some people.

Hi to all you reggae people.
Its great too see so much discussion on the issue of music formats and to hear peoples preferences and dislikes. When I posted this thread it was on the back of a few comments i`d seen from people who thought the only format worth having was vinyl.
I have to agree that I don`t believe their is any format that is best as they all have their advantages / disadvantages.
Vinyl has a nice warm analogue feel that is closest to the source sound but take up a lot of storage space and cannot be played on the move.
CDs take up less space and can be enjoyed on the move but in alot of cases are recorded direct from vinyl source and can carry forth poor sound quality.
MP3 is a good way of hearing many rare tracks that are no longer available on vinyl but have never seen issue on CD. It also makes sharing more accessible. However, regarding the moral of illegal downloading i`m divided on my thougts, yes it is wrong, but if it is the only way to hear some of this great music I guess its got to be done. I don`t believe the artists who made these recordings years ago are missing out. It was hard enough for them to get their due royalties back in the day when the tunes were being recorded what with them being ripped off by the record producers and the record labels.
Many of these artists have now passed on, I also don`t believe the familys they have left behind are seing their due royalties either. The issue of who profits financially will always be up for discussion. I think in the world of reggae the artists never ever got their just rewards, the music was made in a time of hardship and suffering and carries forth a meggage for us all to listen to and enjoy.
This is what we all have in common, listening to the music we love however it is made availavle.
Peace to one and all.
Dave

I agree with Rootsman to some extend that the reggae artists who made the wonderful recordings that are now considered "classic" never got their just royalties when the sides were recorded. They were ripped off big time by the big wigs of the music industry. They rarely complained as they were happy to see their music and its message reaching its audience and making a difference to the lives of their fellow sufferers who endured the same poverty, cultural and political unrest.
Do you honestly think that when you see albums changing hands on ebay at £100 a time that any of this money is getting back to the artist as a form of royalty ? Well it doesn`t. Do you think that when an album is reissued on vinyl or CD that the artist is getting royalties from the reissue ? Well most of the time they don`t because back in the day many artists settled on one off payments for their time spent in the studio enabling them to put food on the table. They were not to know that years down the line the music they were recording would be classed as classic and be worth a small fortune to collectors.
The people who make the money are the record producers and the people who own the record labels. So bare this in mend when many of you people out there shout that it is wrong, illegal and immoral to download music in MP3 format.
The artists i`m sure would just be glad to see that their music is still being listened to and giving the same pleasure today that it did then .
One last thing to all you people who preach of the injustices of downloading music. If you saw a £20.00 note laying in the road would you walk past and leave it because you know its not yours or would you think yourself lucky, pick it up and go and enjoy your luck.
Nuff Said
Peace
Baldhead
