Hello there from Bangkok, yes, I well remember Talisman from my time in Bournemouth - I saw them play there once and from Glastonbury. They were really great and really stuck out in my mind. So good to hear that people are familiar with them and that this website exists. There was another fabulous reggae gig in Bournemouth Town Hall around 1980/81 featuring Capital Letters and Ebony Rockers. Best wishes all

So reading this topic, I wonder, Does anyone know when Talisman - Takin The Strain was released? Early 80's or late?
Someone tell me!
Edit:
Never mind, I found out it was 1984.

Funnily enough I mentioned Ebony Rockers in a thread yeaterday. They were from Southampton, one of the band was George David, Craig David's dad. Put out a couple of singles, and recently reformed.
Bournemouth Town Hall gigs are mentioned on here, they had some cracking do's down there in the early 80s, Misty In Roots, Eek a mouse, Culture, Aswad, Lee Perry( although that was rather surreal). Sound Systems that played where Mighty Observer(now Jah Observer), Sir Coxsone etc

Hi
I wonder if you can help me out.
Does anyone know who is singing the song at the beginning of this clip
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CB-tE8Au ... re=related
"Life's kinda tough when you're living in Bristol"
Someone thinks it might be Talisman so I thought this might be a good place to ask
Thanks for any help
Tim

The most memorable for some was Eek a Mouse - the council turned off the power and he carried the Gig on in revolutionary style - super stuff.
Along with the Town Hall there was a perfect reggae Venue called The Midnight Express run by some local hipsters, who had a second hand bookshop etc --- but they were the minds behind Bournemouth as a Reggae Venue.
Over the years they fronted most of the Town Hall, but also brought others.
Remember a great gig - Clint Eastwood and General Saint, and once Mikey Dread came to play to a small hotel just prior to the Pave the Way LP.
Anything was possible back then.
I was once killing time when a van pulled up and driver needed a new tyre - a got told to jump in the van and I was in the company of Misty...we fixed the tyre and then we went for a Kebab.
Great night.
Catitol Letters was a great Gig.
And as for Talisman - brilliant reggae music.
bring it back to Bournemouth -- all we get now is UB 40!
