Gregory Isaacs' Night Nurse - Island vs. Tad's LP

I noticed that Gregory's Night Nurse is available with some extra tracks on vinyl thru Tad's.

I'm curious if anyone has both the original Island pressing and this new version and how they compare. I also noticed that Island put out a remastered CD version that is actually cheaper than the Tad's CD.

Any info/comparisons would be appreciated.

The Dub Version of Night Nurse on the remastered Island CD is so wicked imho. Track list on the Tad's release seems to be exactly the same as the remastered Island.

I've seen some of these Tad's releases in one my local record stores. Anyone know anything about them? Specifically "More Gregory" and "Cool Ruler" reissued on LP? How is the sound quality on these? Is it just something ripped off a CD or what? Pressing plant? Cover art looked a little pixelated, which put me off, although I nearly bought the Cool Ruler album because I don't have it on any format currently.

I haven't seen the Tad's issues and don't know the story behind them, but you can pick up the Island and Virgin CDs pretty cheaply the last time I looked, even the original vinyl issues aren't expensive and they are all excellent sounding so why buy a resissue using unknown sources.

I have "More Gregory", "Night Nurse" and "Out Deh" on CD's made by Tad's, they are just straight copies of the Island remasters (with bonus tracks). I assume these LP's are also made from those CD masters, especially since they have the bonus tracks. The artwork is copied, so looks a bit blurry, I guess it is is the same with the LP's.

They have re-released several other titles originally on other labels, like "Soon Forward", "Slum In Dub", "All I Have Is Love" (Trojan Anthology), etc., they are all just straight copies, with a Tad's logo added. Seems a bit grey area, especially since some of the titles are still in print in the original versions.

I "shamefully" have to admit that I have the reissued Tad's Night Nurse. I somehow feel like something is lacking in that repress, although it does have those bonus tracks but I feel like the speed of certain tracks somehow slows down. To top that off, there is a loud pop within the few minutes into the title track (mind you this was a fresh copy). IMO I rather get the original Island copy.

I too would suggest getting an original Island copy first and foremost, but if that can't be found or a new unplayed pressing is preferred, I would advise to get this one, in Universal's "Back to Black" series (might be out of print):

Another vote here for avoiding the Tad's LP and going for the Island or Back on Black copies. My Tad's LP copy came warped right out of the sealed sleeve. I'll be avoiding any and all Tad's vinyl from here on out.

Not an LP-only snob either. Getting this on CD is probably a good way to collect the bonus material and ensure audio quality.

Pressed at United by chance?

Thanks for the feedback on Tad's. I have the Island CDs already for More Gregory, Night Nurse, Out Deh, and a Virgin (I think) CD for Soon Forward. I stick with these types of CDs for Cool Ruler and some other titles I am missing but intend to pick up eventually.

Re: Universal Back to Black reggae reissues, I've had good luck with a couple so far, though they tend to be pricey in the U.S.
