Discomixes of One Drop Reggae...

Another more question...
(big listening yesterday and today!)
Ive realised that a little part of the stuff that was issued only on 7" before 77 (cause discomixes werent yet a standard...) had a later release on 12", many times on UK labels.
I personnally usually prefer the One Drop reggae to later Rockers and Dancehall... And love the 12" cause of the improved sound quality but... Cant find many Jamaican one drop releases on discomixes...!
And that's sad...!! Cause the wax of the 7" is usually poorer and the bass less powerful....
Yet Ive found a few of them like...
Of course The Pablo Stuff, as Well as Perry, Prince Fari and Coxsone that released absolute killer One Drop 12"
but a part of that...
Survivors - Third World Rebellion
Maytones - Who can hear must feel
and thats pretty much everything...
So if you have any suggestion of Jamaican One Drop on 12"... Would be really appreciated!

Hey Litelet, little question:
When you speak about "one drop" do you mean thoses tunes where the bass-kick is on the first and third beat or simply the tunes with that single third beat feel?

Single kick on third... Pre 76, more or less. Others I would call dancehall...
I know there is a nowaday a so called "new one drop generation" that use a dancehall drum structure... but I was speaking of the *real one drop*!

Pointing something out here Litelet,
At first I tought that it would be easy to find a few names that were given the 12" reissue treatment, but now...
Intersting point. Maybe this has to do with the demande of the reggae fans from that time when the 12" where issued, maybe it was more rockers/steppers influenced.
That make the charm of the little 7". Go for it!
For that one drop, after reflexion, the terme "one drop" is way more apropriated for a single kick on third... one drop not two drops.
Don't know from where the confusion came, but I considered it as widely accepted.
Will speen Bob's One Drop on 7" for his birthday, and that bass kick location will settle the problem!

According to *bonga* in the **Burning Spear - Free (Spear 7")** thread, this great one drop tune was given a later 12" pressing on Tribesman label...
As *bonga* says, this comes with added effects.

Guess you could include the Dj cut to the Maytones by Blacka Cool....and Hopeton Lindo 12" on Tasha

Theres quite a few i could mention.I think people have different terms of what a one drop riddim is.We didnt use the term much back in the 70`s and 80`s.Is it a riddim that has not had a version on a another record?
One in the spirit-Sista Frica Rockers 7" & 12"
The 12" cut goes straight into the dub from vocals, and has another full length dub on the other side.
The Jammys 12"s on the Live & Love label, that were done in 87-88 in england and then some of them got released in ja on 7"s that were not as good as the uk 12"s.
A lot of the 12"s have an extra dub on them so the really good ones you would get the 7" and the 12".
The sound tends to be better sound quality on discomixes 12"s because the grooves are wider on the vynil.
Peace

"African Land" by Carol Kalphat. Don't know what year it was released, I presume 1977 or something. It's a one drop beat and great 12".
