I was on a record shop, and I saw one of the countless compilations named "Best Reggae Album Ever", and that gave me the idea for a topic...

We all know that usually this compilations respond to the tracks usually owned by the company releasing the comp, not to a well-thought compilation of some period, or even style, and we usually find tracks like A la la la long, or some Wailers material, Shaggy and the like.

So I started to make my own "Best Reggae Album Ever" with REAL hit songs within the Reggae Market and beyond, meaning songs that have crossed over as well... So I would like you to contribute with songs in that direction, meaning not your personal all time favourite selection, which has been done several times previously I think, but a well-thought selection of those tracks that are really important in Reggae history... and beyond.

I would like to start the selection with

DENNIS BROWN - REVOLUTION

Why? Hit song undoubtely, but also one the most sampled basslines in Reggae and Hip Hop.

(I would appreciate an explanation for your choice)

This one was a big hit for the Cool Ruler and, undoubtedly, the peak of his career. A must !

I've played it in non-reggae fans circles, and people always seems to know it and like it, I think it has been sampled as well, but I won't be able to assure that.

Junior Murvin - Police and Thieves

Massive international hit. Great song. Incredible production. I'd guess that, Marley aside, it's the track that first turned a lot of English people on to roots reggae in the late 70s.

S90 skank Big Youth

i love the lyrics:
"When you ride like lightning you'll crash like thunder"

and a great, catchy riddim, too.

OK Fred - Errol Dunkley. It's quasi cheesy but I like it a lot. It was also a hit in the European pop charts.
