The Good the Bad and the Upsetters (JA edition)

Post by Sandy »

With apologies if this subject has already been raised (I've had a look & can't find anything) but this has recently been released:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/The-Good-Bad-Up ... CTUW76FH2S

I was aware of the fact that Lee Perry distanced himself from the UK release of the same name, as he had nothing to do with it, but I had no idea that he had made this album.

So does anyone know anything about it, and is it any good?

We had a lengthy thread around the time it came out (though the LP title is not in the thread title making it hard to locate)

Problem is, that old thread is mostly a couple of people moaning over a few seconds cut off on the last track...

Yeah, I've just seen that, Jahson.

Any chance we could kick off another discussion about the music content - without reference to the "missing 3 seconds"????

So then. How is the sound quality? How much of the album is previously unreleased? That kind of thing.

I'm prob going to buy the thing anyway, but it'd be nice to get a bit of feedback. The only review on Amazon is someone p*ssed off because they downloaded the wrong music!!!!

Actually I think it was several of us getting rather upset that Hot Milk knew about the problem and didn't care at least that annoyed me more than the missing seconds.

It's unfortunate that the final track is incomplete, but I'm more than happy with it and not throwing out the baby with the bath water...

I think the sound quality is very good, and the extensive liner notes by David Katz are of his usual high standard and describe the provenance of these tunes better than I can.

There are some familiar riddims from the Wailers, Gaylads, etc. but I believe most of these versions are unreleased. There's a groovy steel pan version of Bum Ball which is nice.

You can hear preview from each song at Reggaerecord store: http://www.reggaerecord.com/en/catalog/ ... code=98185

Does somebody have some info if they still plan vinyl edition?
