The Message Dubwise

Post by Zigi »

Hi,

Is it true that The Message Dubwise on the
Melodisc label came in a blank sleeve and not in the normal sleeve like the FAB release?

Does the Mellodisc release title say 'Dubwise by Big Youth' instead of the title 'The Message Dubwise'?

Thanks

Yes But I believe that is a second jamaican issue
the first issue was similar but not with a black and white label but black and yellow

Original Jamaican issue has red/white Prince Buster label

while the back cover more often than not has Buster's Shack stamp on it

This Mellodisc release title say 'Dubwise by Big Youth' instead of the title 'The Message Dubwise'. Comes in a blank sleeve is to be found with a black and white and yellow and black (see pic).

Well think we discussed all the releases now.

I think this release is somekind of pre but that is imho.

I saw that auction. Are there any differences in mix or tracks? There are five tracks that differ in title at least but some of them seem to be the same. I've put the FAB release titles first and the Dub Wise By Big Youth on the second line.

**Swing Low
Swing Low**

**Sata A Masa Gana
Sata**
Prince Buster All Stars – Sata Masa Gana

**Java Plus
Java**
The Senior Pablo All Stars – Science
Pablove Black - Java / It's A Fire

**The Message
Provocation**

**Mississippi
Thunder Rock**
Jah Fender – Old Kent Road Version

**Saladin
Sea Of Love**
Could be Jah Fender – Sea Of Love but they seem to be different cuts.

**Why Am I Treated So Bad
Why Am I Treated So Bad**
Prince Buster – Why Am I Treated So Bad

**Jet Black
I Am Not A King**
Jet Black is over Prince Buster – Leave Your Man which is on the I Am Not A King rhythm so rather likely both are the same.

**Black Harlem
Stick By Me**
This one is over Prince Buster - Black Pum Pum which is a cut of John Holt - Stick By Me.

**Big Youth
Big Youth (Medley)**

Also when was this released? Cat # on the FAB indicate it was a '72 release but that would be in line with when the first dub albums appeared. I know it's one of the contenders for the earliest ones but also it's pretty certain it wasn't _the_ first one. So it would be difficult for it to come the year before the other contenders for the title.

True I let you know the matrix number and how it interacts with the other known issues. I had this LP but sold it and now bought it again. Also I have the fab and rerelease so I can and will compare once more.

The tracknames are different but I recall not the dubsongs nor their mixes but I will check it once more when the Lp arrives. One thing is certain when this was issued ,dub wasnt big because they mentioned Big Youths name in the title, In order to sell it. There was a strong DJ hype on jamaica from 70 till 73? So indeed this is (still) a contender for the first dub LP. But the blank pre Aquarius Dub is a strong contender. It are the dub LP's with pre-releases that go for the title. For what it is worth.
