No its some sort of interface box what your seeing. That allows the digital records on your turntables to play the mp3 on your laptop .In effect even though your playing mp3 you still have to master the art of turntablism.
For djs you would have to make the mp3 of your vinyl and put them on your laptop to utilize this.Wich would save on wear and tear on the vinyl(plus not having to carry tons of crates around). Its quite a sight to see theese digital records on regular 1200 turntables controlling the mp3 from the laptop.Strange concept for sure digital vinyl but it does work good.
But as leggo said you do lose that warm rich sound of vinyl and the lowest of the lows wich you cant get with MP3.
how much reggae does I and I own ?

@Boom.Hi,thinking just a bit more what you ask(think i went astray previous).keep in mind i have never used one.I can see you thinking that and in a sense it is , its reading analog to digital signal wich would go to the lap top then from the laptop to an amp .I have a feeling its a little more technoligal then a basic pre amp but similar idea.
Heres another digital treat for vinyl people:

sorry for being so off topic .

Yeah Maple Free, you're totally off topic...
but this link is really interesting ... do you really believe this "thing" plays a "pure analog" sound.... ???? that's pretty weird!...
by the way, i do have most of my collection in mp3 (cause it's easier to get to know what i really enjoy and search for it's original!
) but there's nothing like hearing the original vinyl playing upon your turntable! Right now, i have only 130 cds, and about 100 records between LP's and 45's (7"s, 10"s & 12"s mostly). Those are the only ones i count, i don't count mp3's as "albuns" i have...
Respect,

I don't know if it is ELP, but my son uses a very similar set up to do his Djing. I have seen him in action and I know it takes a lot of skill to do.
I think he now uses something that is similar but doesn't use actual decks at all, but I haven't seen him use that yet. I will ask him how it works.

ah well, i guess as technology moves on people will move into using it more, im 21 and i cant imagine ever using anything but vinyl when playing out, i sometimes carry around 2x 100 12" box and 1x 300 7" box cause i never know quite what the vibe will be..
The only things i worry about is one of them getting damaged, that i guess would be a major advantage of using mp3's, backup.
Another worry is of getting all my vinyl stolen, it takes up quite a bit of room and im bound to get robbed one day, can only hope that they dont take my records (which if they had any sense they wouold)
my solution to vinyl that i take out getting damaged is one day, if i ever come accross some vast fortune of money i'd buy some kind of vinyl maker and make copies of tunes i take out.. but then i'd really need a lot of money for that.

I also worry about theft. Hopefully if any toe-rag ever broke in here he'd just take the kid's play stations and stuff and not realise that the reggae vinyl is probably worth more than my car. Correction, definately worth more than my car!

Yeah and mine, but then my car is crap, heh. Theft is something i've wondered what people like ourselves have done to protect themself, theres always house insurance which would get you the money but not the tunes :/

Hi,i noticed that elp also plays broken cracked records.Thats a huge plus.Hopefully it will be affordable someday.I kinda doubt its a pure analog signal elp outputs but the claim is it is.
Yes i worry of theft too(please take the 60 bucks I leave out for such times, lol tru),i imagine if its truly worthwhile you could seperately insure your collection for theft, fire, water damage...so on
Peace everyone
