Looking for roots musicians in southern california

i live in san diego and find it hard to connect with roots reggae musicians where i live. everytime i say the word reggae people think sublime. its frustrating.
im in search of true reggae musicians in or around the san diego area. i play guitar and am looking to make roots music with the ruffness of the 70s. aggrovators,soul syndicate styli.

any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

True. I live in San Diego too (Chula Vista) and the same problem occurs to me, Reggae here is sublime, Matisyahu, etc... Popular as always is stuff like eek a mouse marley and isaacs. If it weren't for Trade Roots Reggae I would have gone crazy here, but anyways I don't play any instrument....sorry greg I just stick to my turntables and my vynils!!!

thanks for the reply jah wise, i am looking for keys bass drums at the moment, just trying to put together a solid riddim section. then eventually bring in lead guitar and horn section

haile maskel or michael ras star of the rastafarians'fame is living in long beach and i don't know whether it is in socal or north carolina.i live in senegal,west africa and don't know really whether it is near your location.tony valentine of the soul syndicate fame is also living in california ,not far from los angeles.my friend rusty zinn who is also very friendly with tony valentine and georges fullwood of the syndicate fame is also living in california near the san francisco bay area.maybe i should send rusty an email and ask him whether i should give you his adress?

i live in san diego. I play organ, guitar, bass, trumpet(its been a while but i can still play) and drums. I have all of the instruments except drums.

my main influence are the upsetters but also artists like mighty three's,maytones, junior byles, aggrovators, hippy boys etc..
