Is Marley reggae?

i do like marley. some dont. i also like the early reggae stuff from 69,70 etc. but funny, i dont like the polished up stuff from that era [young gifted and black with the added strings] aimed at the white market. so i can understand some might not like the wailers later stuff. if music rocks me it rocks me. if it dont it dont. so i respect everyones opinion on this site. whether i agree with them or not. thats why this forum is so good. freedom of speech. is marley reggae..... great topic.

Marley's early recordings are true reggae tracks, and the later recordings are commercial, and the original reggae beat and guitar strum dropped in favour of attracting a wider audiance. The wider audiance still rejects the original Jamaican recording of Marley and the other artists, simply because they listen only to the reggae strum, thus dictating the reggae music is repetitive.

Hard for me to disagree with this as I love the early Wailers stuff (see my review of Another Dance in the review section!). Marley and co. certainly did stray from the reggae beat at times later on.
I must say though that even in those early days Marley was already leaning away from the Jamaican sounds and bought a lot of American Soul influence to the music. He did move away to the US for a fairly long stretch at sometime during the Wailers early years (mid 60's) and I think this may have been the reason for this.
