Versions & Originals

Post by chromatic »

I was thinking that a possibility for this site might be to have a 'wiki' type system (yes, it's another proposal to take control out of the highly capable and much-appreciated hands of the mods, and make the site all messy :) ) where for dub albums, there's also a list of the original tracks?

The only site out there that I'm aware of that currently does this is Dub Directory, which is great but by no means comprehensive.

I realise that it's also fun tracking down originals when you're like, I know I know that one but what is it?, but nonetheless, when you don't it can be frustrating - and it'd be another great way to use the collective wealth of knowledge that we've got here.

Otherwise you're very welcome at doing this over at Reggaepedia (which is a wiki intended for reggae)

I've done that exact thing for some of the Twinkle Brothers dub albums;

I started a thread about that (albums & their dubs iirc) some time ago in the forum. The idea seems seducing (I planned to add dub albums links to all vocal albums) but is complicated in a technical way as most of time a dub album is not strictly dubs from a vocal album (some of the tracks missing) and if we consider it song by song, a vocal track can have many dub versions. I still didn't find a good idea on how to make it except using riddims song by song which would be far too much work imo.
