A friend of mine recently mentioned he wanted to be introduced to roots reggae, dub, dancehall and rocksteady, and wanted me to throw a few songs on a cd for him. He wanted some Lee Perry stuff specifically.
I was very happy to throw a mix cd together! I wanted make sure I had a real broad range of styles and sounds on it. So heres the tracks I ended up mixing for him:
1. Intro*
2. Firehouse Rock · Wailing Souls
3. One Step Forward · Max Romeo
4. Curly Locks · Lee Perry
5. Mr. Chin · Yellowman
6. Anarexol · Eek-A-Mouse
7. Rock ‘N’ Groove · Bunny Wailer
8. Fisherman · The Congos
9. Three Blind Mice/Three Times Three · Leo Graham,
King Tubby & The Upsetters
10. King Tubby Meets The Rockers Uptown · Augustus Pablo
11. Dyon Anasawa · The Upsetters ft. Full Experience
12. Jealousy & The Get Free · Bedouin Soundclash
13. Reggaemylitis · Peter Tosh
14. Natty Have Him Credential · Don Carlos
15. Informer · Cocoa Tea
16. Mr. Money Man · Danny Hensworth
17. Money Worries · Bedouin Soundclash ft. Vernon Maytone
18. Ganja Smuggling · Eek-A-Mouse
19. Bird in Hand · Lee Perry
20. Outro*
Intro and outro were just some vocal samples (intro was from a Tubby dub, says "Reggae music-ic, come make we dance it quick")
Tried to stay away from Bob Marley; no disrespect, its just everyone knows his songs.
I know I'm missing the early ska/rocksteady sound, i got caught up in the roots!
What do you think? Anything I miss that should go on part 2
