dub over dub 27 track extravaganza

Anyone heard this double lp on Heartbeat of Errol Brown dubs on Hightone? I have just one of the cassettes that I hadn't heard in probably a decade or more and I dug it out of the cassette graveyard tonight and gave it a listen. It's fantastic! Wish I had the full set. Anyone know what these are from? Were they on original dub lps before Heartbeat did this great reissue with the horrendous cover art?

Got that one. Liner notes don't say anything about the originals,it's a collection of Errol Brown mixed Pottinger '70's hits. Pure niceness imo.
The recent Pressure Sounds release "Pleasure dub" are even better Errol Brown dubs / Treasure Isle productions.

The dubs are from a variety of High Note productions. Heartbeat has another excellent collection called **The Reggae Train** that contains about half of the vocal versions found on Dub Over Dub.

Thanks for the info Mick. I'm psyched to check out that reggae train album now! Yeah, something about Errol Brown. It's great dub and it does sound distinct. He has his own style. Been enjoying the Treasure Isle dubs he did too.

Dub is an art form, it really is. The idea of taking a track and cutting it down to the barest possible elements, and keeping those elements shifting, is minimalism taken to something of an extreme. At its absolute worst, it's difficult to consider dub to be music at all; at its best, it's the ultimate groove, relaxing, psychedelic, strange. This 27-cut compilation, featuring the mixing board talents of Errol Brown at the High Note label, is a classic example of doing it right -- in other words, a lot of fun, no filler, no boredom. The mastering is likewise excellent, giving the dubs a crisp edge. ~ Steven McDonald

Flashman, you won't be disappointed with Reggae Train - it's brilliant. There is also one dub on Reggae Train, called Dub Up, which is a version of Jackie Edwards scorcher, Get Up and it was the inspiration for The Clash's Revolution Rock.
I agree with all the sentiments expressed about Errol Brown's talents. Another compilation worth checking is Culture In Dub on the same label and by the same people, Sonia Pottinger (R.I.P.) & Errol Brown. Or as the late Joseph Hill would have put it, "Same treatment, different patient"!
