Unidentifiable Reggae song in EastEnders (22-01-1987)

Post by TheReggaeMan »

Hi there friends.
After months and months of effort trying to identify this song, which you'll be able to hear in the background of this clip, I've had no choice but to join a forum for help. A catchy tune, but it's wracking my brain as I can't identify the artist and I just wanna listen to it in all its glory, and not in the background of a clip, below, is a snippet I have uploaded on the hope someone can at least identify the artist. The song is played in quite a few episodes so if anyone needs more, I will upload!

It's definitely 1980's Reggae, sounds it anyway. And I'm hearing the lyrics "Show me how, show me how you..." but that's all I can make out.

Any help would be much appreciated.
Kind Regards!!

I bet there's a free software to lower the voices and boost the background sound. By the way.... that show looks awful ;-)

Hi,
Sorry about the poor quality clip. It's from EastEnders and throughout the 1980's they played a lot of Reggae music in the Market, a lot of it I thought catchy and addictive lol.

I've uploaded another clip that features this song, again in the background but it's a tad louder and the majority of it is playing. I've tried to edit so the song is louder before but to no avail. I'm out of ideas. Shazam, MusicID, Soundhound etc just won't recognise the song.

I thought maybe John Holt or Dennis Brown but the voice isn't as deep. Hmmmm...

It's probably library music, Eastenders wouldn't have had the budget to licence a proper track so would have used something from KPM, DeWolfe or a similar company. Dennis Bovell did at least one library LP on KPM in 1981 and there are also some non Bovell Reggae library tracks, although he'd be my first guess. The catalogue number for the Bovell LP is KPM 1253, not sure if the tracks are on the net.

I'm not sure about it being library music. They did use KPM and the Bruton BRR12 album by Bill Campbell all through the 80's, but Bob Marley's "Three Little Birds" and Maxi Priest's "Let Me know" have played in earlier episodes as above, and this track sounds too mainstream to be something from a library.
Really is beginning to look like I should forget the song all together...Damn it!! Lol

I re-read Dubmart's comment and decided to look up DeWolfe. Well after about 5 minutes of browsing through the Reggae section, I come across it. My heart sank it's such a catchy tune!!

If you want to have a listen, just click the link and play one of the "Reach Out and Touch" clips!!
