WAILING SOULS
WHEN THE WAILING SOULS DID THEIR FIRST RECORDINGS, WAS IT FOR CHANNEL ONE? OR STUDIO 1? AND DID THEY EVER RECORD SONGS OR ALBUMS UNDER THE NAME OF "THE RENEGADES"?

Re: WAILING SOULS
I have an album on Studio 1. Think it might be their first. It has Originals of Mr Fire coal Man, Back out etc. Think they did indeed do their first recordings for Coxsone, although they also sang harmonies on some early Wailers tracks when Peter and Bunny didn't show up. Not sure if they recorded as The Renegades

The Renegades did some background vocals for Ernest Ranglin and Pam Blye.
The Wailing Souls did their 1st recording for Lloyd The Matador (Gold Digger) who refused to record Back Out With It that he found too militant. The group then went to Coxsone for whom they cut something like 50 singles (some credited to The Classics or to Pipe & The Pipers).

To avoid any confusion with The Wailers, Wailing Soul recorded for Tuff Gong only as Pipe & The Pipers.

Just for info and nothing to do with the original question, acording to the June 1979 issue of Black Music & Jazz Review, which included a recording history of the Wailing Souls, the Renegades included someone called George Hill in the lineup in addition to Matthews, McDonald and Haye.
It also says that Winston "Pipe" Matthews first recorded in 1959, aged 10, for Prince Buster as leader of a schoolboy quartet called the "Schoolboys" (there's a surprise). They released two singles (both Pipe originals) called "Little Dilly" and "Dream Lover".

True, the Souls did their first recordings as The Classics for Mr Dodd, also recorded as Pipe & The Pipers, the Renegades as said, and Attaras with Joe Higgs for Micron

WELL REGARDLESS WHO DID WHAT FOR WHO AND SO AND SO I THINK THAT THE WAILING SOULS REMAIN IN THE TOP IN THE REGGAE INDUSTRIES ESPECIALLY RECORDING FOR CHANNEL ONE AND DYNAMICS SOUNDS.
