Tappa Zukie in DUb

Post by leggo rocker »

I'd love to get a copy of this rare LP in good shape to spin on the decks here.

Anyone?

Hi Leggo
Only ever seen this album once ,at a Record Fair in Oxford.Didn`t get it `cos side two had a great big scratch across it!!Priced at about £15.00.Kick myself in hindsight.I only have it on CD ( Blood & Fire ).Nice to see you`re up and at it early,by the way!

Hi there Leggo,
Read the thread and played the CD,which I haven`t listened to for a while and checked out the liner notes.
Quote-" "Tapper Zukie In Dub" quickly sold out the first and only pressing limited to 300 copies in mid-summer 1976.Tappa had obviously picked the right rhythms."-Steve Barrow.."

Happy hunting !!!

Saw it on ebay.uk some time ago at a starting price of 500 pounds. Don't remember what the condition was. If there were only 300 copies, you can figure that it isn't going to be cheap!

Because CDs don't seem to work on any of my record decks!

But I will pick it up on vinyl if there's a good quality repress of it. No choice really!

Not a chance Trevor. I've been upgrading my hi-fi this last week, my local hi-fi store have been lending me some serious (ish) kit in for my listening approval.

I've tried various amps, speakers and stuff and have more or less concluded that modern speakers are way better than old ones (which are almost always passed their best). But nothing else seems to match the old retro hi-fi. Older amps and record decks all seem to do the job just as well, if not better than the new (very expensive) record decks and amps.

I already have an expensive Sony SACD player but thought I would try the stuff from the store at a £500 price point. They all sounded great. Until I played the same tune on the record decks via the same amps and speakers. Then the CD just sounded 'bright'. That's harsh, glassy. Not nice.

So for CDs, I remain thoroughly unconverted - except in the car! I have an old Technics deck which will play upside-down but the vinyl and the deck just take up too much space. :D

Try "tuning" your CD sound by experimenting with different interconnect cables,it works fine for me.I have no tone controls on my pre-amp,so what is recorded is what you hear!
I do understand what your saying about analogue sound,it`s what I prefer. On vinyl,I can hear when tape splices are in the mix, when the engineer pushes a noisy slider etc.,but so too, I can on CD.
I realise we beg to differ, but some of the tunes we all listen to are only avaliable on CD like, for example, long lost Perry stuff or "Tapper Zukie In Dub." ;) So that`s the only choice we have.
Anyway this isn`t an argument, but a discussion, so I`m off to play some more tunes.Have a nice weekend. ;)

Take care
