Reggae music on CD

In the early 90`s I sold my entire record collection consisting in the region of 1500 LP`s and many 12" / 7" singles(my lifes biggest mistake). The majority of my LP collection consisted of Reggae (mid 70`s - mid 80`s) and Jazz (mid 50`s - late 60`s).

Over the past 12 years i`ve found that the majority of jazz titles which I had on labels such as Blue Note, Prestige Riverside, Impulse etc have been released on CD in their original album format. However i`ve found that a large number of Reggae albums that I owned have never received a CD release.

I have managed to replace a significant number on CD, but their are many more titles which, using Roots Archive as a search tool, do not appear on CD.

To obtain many other tracks which I owned I have had to purchase either best of or various artist CD compilations.

My point is why are there so many good mid 70`s to mid 80`s reggae albums not getting the CD releases they deserve. Reggae and Jazz is not that disimilar in as much as many of the classic jazz albums that were released on small independent labels during the late 50`s / 60`s did not have the financial backing of the large corporate labels. This was the same for most of the reggae releases coming out of Jamaica during the 70`s / early 80`s. But whereas many of these Jazz titles have found there way onto CD, the reggae ones have not.

I know there are many people who would rather hunt down the original album titles (that used to be my hobby many years ago). But I believe there are probably just as many people who would like to be able to purchase them on CD.

shame to hear about your collection, id suggest www.gemm.com it sells most things, theres a lot of reggae thats been made that deserves its place on cd.. its sad that people dont get to hear those classics.
