How to register at B&F?

Post by adilisha »

Maybe not really fitting to post it here and definetely no disrespect against Roots Archives Forum intended, but how did anyone succeed to register at B&F Forum? I've been trying for a while and never got an activation. Also from other people I heard the same. How do you manage to get in there? Bribe the admin? B&F is truly the worst Forum administration I have ever seen! If anyone has some advice for me let me know ...

B&F hit financial problems some time ago so there probably isn't an administrator in that sense. We were all surprised that the site and forum remained at all!

yes, same for me, I tried twice few weeks ago but never received an activation key. B&F forum seems very interesting though aggressive for eyes :).

I am registered at B&F but I can't stand to use the site because of the awful white (and orange!) type on black background.

Any good graphic designer or person from the printing trade knows that the eye rejects this set up and struggles to deal with it. And when those eyes have been seeing for more than 40 years the struggle is even harder still.

That, believe it or not, is why I ended up using this forum and never the B&F one. And, of course, there's the amazing database here, the thing that first brought me into R-A.

Both of these forums have their merit, i use both but mainly R-A thougha lot of dub, stepper, digi people use B&F which is good if you want to find out something on that genre.

I havent had such a difficulty with the colour design but i agree that R-A looks much lighter and more enjoyable to read

RA is my main hang-out, but because I love all genres of Reggae I also travel the different boards....chatty mouth, Champion Sound, SNWMF, Trojan, & B&F. I can say I gain valuable info from them all, but will always have RA number 1. You can't beat the database and I always enjoy and respect the postings!

Quick quesiton @ Adilisha...are you trying to post there? You should be able to still surf the board and read what is going on. That is what I have been doing since I am not activated.

I have been following the discussions on B&F for quite a while already. I could live without posting there because I have registered at RA now and can post here with good results. But the thing is I would like to get in contact with and pm some people over at B&F. So I still want in there!

Also it's not that there is no board administration at all. I see new people getting registered every other day.

Leggorocker, why not give me your B&F account since you don't want it. ;)

OK, sorry adilisha if you are getting problems that other people aren't. I was basing my assumptions on this 6-month old quote from Steve Barrow, former owner of B&F.

"...strictly speaking there is no-one at B&F. Bob Harding resigned in June and Dom and myself were paid our last wages in July.

"The office in Manchester is closed, all the remaining stock is in storage, and the company has ceased trading, apart from the accountant collecting monies still owed to B&F, and paying it out again to those who the company owes.

"This forum is still here, though I don't actually know who is paying for the bandwidth or whatever it needs to keep going.

"I assume the website is being paid for by the accountant, but I don't actually know for sure. I've only been able to get back on here by re-registering. I'm assuming that the website will continue in some way or other...."

Websites can often stay up for a long time even after the bills stop getting paid. Some hosts don't keep a very close check on these things. I once had a website stay online and active for four years without paying the tab! They never did notice, right up until the day I closed the site myself!

Nice to know B+F matters from the voice of Steve Barrow. I was wondering what was going on with B+F releases since they've haven't released much of a long stretch. I used to get very happy when a new re-issue came out with the killer graphics on their LP and CD releases. So, much that I often bought both formats!
